Complex Emotional Needs

Complex Emotional Needs

People who have complex emotional needs (sometimes know as personality disorder) are often chronically suicidal or repeatedly self-harm and have with difficulties coping with life and feeling out of control, particularly with regards to emotions and relationships.

People often experience intense unstable relationships, fear of being abandoned, and trouble maintaining relationships. They can be impulsive and act in ways likely to cause harm such as drinking, drug taking, binge eating, shoplifting and reckless driving. There can also be confusion about self including : a confused or absent sense of self, feeling empty, evil or non-existent and feeling that the self, others or the environment are somewhat unreal, changed or threatening.

Our clinicians offer CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), CAT (Cognitive Analytic Therapy) or DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) informed treatments. They work with both the individuals and their families. Our Clinical Psychologists can help individuals to reduce their self defeating behaviours and increase behaviours that promote a positive sense of self and develop a life worth living.
