About Dr Ruth Hunter

Ruth is a Senior Clinical Psychologist currently working in a Secondary Care Mental Health Service in the NHS, working with individuals with complex mental health problems. She is also an associate of Insight Eating. She has experience of providing both individual and group therapy and can offer specialist assessment, formulation and therapy to adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties. She receives specialist supervision for working with individuals with eating disorders. She also has a special interest in working with people who have experienced psychological trauma and has much experience in understanding and treating the effects of trauma.

Ruth draws on several models in order to tailor her care to each individual she works with. In particular, she uses Cognitive-Analytic Therapy (CAT), a time-limited therapy focussing on a collaborative understanding of an individual’s feelings, thoughts and actions, and the relational patterns (often stemming from childhood) which underlie these. In addition to CAT Ruth also uses Compassion-Focussed Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical-Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement desensitization and reprocessing.

She is a chartered member of the British Psychological Service and is registered with the Health Care and Professionals Council (PYL32476)
