Fran has a specialist interest in complex trauma and addiction. The main therapeutic models she draws from include the following:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which explores how thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations and behaviours interact often maintaining a problem and how learning specific CBT techniques can break this cycle.
Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) which explores the relational patterns we have with ourselves, others and the world. The therapeutic relationship is used to support clients in recognising their relational patterns and in changing them.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) which balances acceptance with change. Targeted behaviours are analysed by developing a sequence of what prompted the behaviour including thoughts, feelings, urges etc. and the consequences of engaging in the behaviour. DBT skills including; Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation and Distress Tolerance are identified to practice, in an attempt to avoid repeating the behaviour.
Prolonged Exposure Therapy which supports individuals in re-processing and overcoming trauma. This involves the client narrating their account of the trauma with the therapist paying particular attention to the clients embodied emotion and supporting them to change this as they re-narrate their story.
Fran is also a qualified yoga instructor and has completed trauma informed yoga training courses.
