About Jen Woodhouse
Hi, I’m Jen. I’m a HCPC registered clinical psychologist.
Since qualifying in 2014 I have worked predominantly within specialist eating disorder services in the NHS while also holding a small caseload in private practice. I have experience in delivering both group and one-to-one interventions to people experiencing distress relating to their eating and weight including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, emotional eating and body image difficulties.
I have worked with people at varying stages of their journeys towards recovering from an eating disorder (within inpatient settings, day service, and within community settings) and pride myself on being able to meet people at whatever stage they are at and come to a shared understanding of treatment goals.
I understand that it takes courage to reach out for help and therefore I prioritise taking the time to develop a trusting, compassionate and supportive therapeutic relationship from which people can feel confident to explore meaningful changes within their lives.
I also understand that eating issues often stem from a complex interplay of numerous factors (including but not limited to trauma, grief, identity, anxiety, depression, relationship issues) and therefore I draw on an integrative approach of evidence-based therapies including Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and mind-body approaches to assessment, formulation and treatment in order to help you to reach individual goals.
My approach prioritises taking the time to understand each individual’s personal circumstances and what has led them to experience the issues they bring to therapy, before empowering them with both understanding and strategies to overcome these.
In addition to my work in eating disorder services I have also worked within an NHS specialist pain management team and health psychology department.
I have experience working with people living with a variety of long-term health conditions and supporting them to live full and meaningful lives despite the challenges that their health brings. Understanding the interplay between body and mind and supporting people to find a balanced and healthy relationship in this space is a particular interest of mine.
